They’re coming back! Glasgow power-trio the John Langan Band have travelled a long way since winning a Danny Kyle Open Stage Award at Celtic Connections 2008 – not least musically, with their brilliantly tempestuous sound encompassing “a veritable United Nations of musical influences” (Folk Radio UK), including Celtic, Balkan, Gypsy and flamenco elements, fueled by visceral punk spirit. With a deceptively stripped down line-up of vocals, guitar, fiddle, bass and percussion, they released their debut album, Bones of Contention, to ecstatic reviews in 2013, following up two years later with the double disc I’m Alive/Live at the Globe ‘Astonishing work, boundlessly inventive’ R2 Magazine ‘Exquisite, passionate playing’ The Scotsman ‘Extraordinary’ The Times |
